01Best

Empty legs (repositioning flights)

Up to ~70% off

An aircraft flying empty to reposition for its next paying customer — you ride along for a fraction of charter cost.

  • Route is fixed — you choose the date, not the city pair. TEB→MIA, VNY→ASE, HPN→BDA are typical.
  • Same aircraft, same Part 135 operator — only the price is different. No safety downgrade.
  • Vanish fast — most empty legs book within hours of posting. Daily board = daily check.

02Flex

Flexible ±3 days

~20–35% off

Shifting departure by even one day often catches a cheaper repositioning aircraft or a quieter operator day.

  • Tues/Wed/Sat departures are typically cheaper than Sunday peaks and holiday eves.
  • ±3 days is the sweet spot — wide enough to find a match, tight enough to plan around.
  • We return 3 dated options per request so you can compare days head-to-head.

03Size

Right-size the cabin

~25–50% off

A 2-hour hop for two doesn't need a Heavy. Bumping down one cabin class is the single biggest lever you control.

  • TBM / PC-12 (turboprop) — from ~$2.4k/hr est. for 1–500nm legs.
  • Light (Citation M2 / Phenom 300) — from ~$3.2k/hr est. for 4 pax, 1–2hr legs.
  • Midsize (Hawker 800 / Citation XLS+) — only when range or 6+ seats matter.

04FBO

Secondary airports & FBOs

~10–20% off

Skip theslot-constrained majors. Relief airports mean lower landing fees, faster turns, and fewer peak surcharges.

  • NYC: Teterboro (TEB) or White Plains (HPN) instead of JFK/EWR.
  • LA: Van Nuys (VNY) or Hawthorne (HHR) instead of LAX.
  • London: Farnborough (FAB) or Biggin Hill (BQH) instead of LHR/LGW.

051-way

One-ways that match repositioning

~30–55% off

A round-trip that strands an aircraft forces you to pay for its return. A one-way in the direction it was already going does not.

  • Southbound in winter, northbound in spring — match seasonal repositioning flows.
  • Avoid round-trips under 24h — minimums and overnights stack fast.
  • Open to a same-day return when an operator has back-to-back legs.

06Off-peak

Off-peak windows

~15–30% off

January, late February, September, and shoulder weeks carry quieter fleets and softer pricing than holidays and Super Bowl / Masters / Art Basel spikes.

  • Avoid: Thanksgiving week, Christmas/New Year, SB / Masters / F1 / Art Basel windows.
  • Shoulder dates either side of a holiday are materially cheaper and just as available.

07Seat

Shared / by-the-seat (where available)

Pay only your seat

On select shuttle-style routes you can buy a single seat instead of the whole aircraft — cheapest of all when it lines up with your route and date.

  • Route-limited — common on NYC↔FL, LA↔LAS, LON↔GVA style flows.
  • Schedule-bound — fixed departure times, not on-demand.

Frugal-flyer tip — stack ranks 2 + 3 + 4 on a rank-1 empty leg. That's where the real 50–70% savings live. Flexibility is the price of admission.

FAQ

Cheapest-to-fly-private, answered honestly.

Often, but not always. Empty legs are usually the single biggest discount, but they're route-fixed and vanish fast. If your dates and route don't match one, the cheapest path is usually a one-way that matches an operator's repositioning, on a right-sized aircraft, off-peak. We return all three side by side.

No. The price drop comes from how the leg is sourced (empty leg, one-way match, off-peak, right-sized cabin) — not from downgrading the aircraft or operator. Every option clears the same bar: FAA Part 135 carrier, two-pilot flight deck on jets, insurance, and a preference for ARGUS / Wyvern ratings. You see the operator and aircraft class with the quote.

±3 days is the practical sweet spot — wide enough to catch a repositioning aircraft, tight enough to plan around. If you can also flex the relief airport (TEB instead of JFK, VNY instead of LAX) and accept a one-way instead of a round-trip, savings stack fast. If you must leave at 09:00 sharp on a specific Sunday, expect full-fare pricing.

Heavies (Falcon 900, Challenger 605, Gulfstream GIV/GV) carry the smallest relative discounts because their repositioning legs are rare and demand is concentrated. The honest move: only book a Heavy when range, headcount, or cabin genuinely requires it. For 1–2 hour domestic hops with four people, a Light or turboprop is dramatically cheaper and equally safe.

Only above a certain flight volume. Memberships and jet cards lock in hourly rates but require large upfront deposits and often exclude the cheapest inventory (empty legs, last-minute one-ways). If you fly fewer than ~25 hours a year, on-demand charter with the savings playbook above almost always wins. We'll show both numbers honestly so you can compare.
